With his bold and vibrant personality, Kahutia is a young man
with incredible leadership potential and drive to succeed. Coming
from the rural outskirts of Whangarei, Kahutia (the youngest of
three brothers) was "raised by my solo Mother and Nan in a house
without power, a gas stove, a drop toilet and water pumped from an
underground spring." He joined Hato Petera as a boarder at the age
of 13.
At boarding school Kahutia has taken hold of every opportunity
set before him with focus and vision. He now mentors the younger
students and is a strong role model in everything from rugby to
Kapa Haka. Fletcher Building also saw this strength in Kahutia. "We
selected Kahutia because he came across as energetic, dynamic and a
self-starter. He was enthusiastic about both the First Foundation
programme and the opportunities offered by Fletcher Building."
After studying Business at either AUT or The University of
Auckland, Kahutia aspires to be a successful businessman.
