Julia arrived at the end of 2005 from Cambodia. In her
application to become a First Foundation scholar she reflects on
how far she has come since then and shows deep appreciation for
those who have nurtured her along the way. She confesses it is has
not been easy with her family still living in Cambodia.
Julia has relished the opportunities that she has had through
school to contribute to people in the wider community, namely
Alzheimer's Auckland and the elderly through a programme called
Learning Buddy.
In terms of schoolwork, Julia is a diligent all-rounder with a
passion for Mathematics. Julia's fascination with numbers, finance
and business has given her a clear vision for the future. She
is looking to a profession as an Actuary and plans to study
commerce at The University of Auckland in order to pursue this as a
career option.
Her community spirit combined with her life experience feed a
growing passion to support other Cambodian immigrants.
