The Head of the Languages Department, Peter
Sutton believes Jeruax is a worthy recipient of the First
Foundation Scholarship, stating that ' whilst at De La Salle
College, Jeraux has been an excellent student and is known and
respected for his talents, attributes, values, "can do" attitude
and general contribution.' In 2009, Jeraux achieved NCEA Level 1
with a Merit endorsement. He was top in Year 11 Graphics and was
awarded De La Salle's Bronze Award for Academic Achievement.
Jeraux plays for his school Basketball team, and has been captain
of the Under 17 and the Under 19 squad. He is currently coaching
the Year 7 and 8 teams. Jeraux is a member of the 'Bring it on'
Dancing and Performing Group. Jeraux lends his hand to community
projects, as part of '5 Profiles' that serves the school and
community. He was selected to go on the 'Dream Fonotaga' camp and
became the leader of his group.
After leaving De La Salle College, Jeraux intends to study at
Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in Civil Engineering or
Architecture. He hopes to eventually gain a Masters Degree. Jeraux
also has an interest in Psychology and wishes to use the knowledge
he gains in this area to raise awareness of the importance of
education amongst Pacific Islanders.
"We are delighted to offer our inaugural Architectus scholarship
to Jeraux Makata. Jeraux was selected as our preferred candidate
because he interviewed so well, was articulate in his communication
& well presented. Jeraux displayed a keen interest in
architecture and design and we look forward to him joining us and
to assisting him through these key years." - Joy Patridge,
