Soana Pamaka, the Principal of Tamaki
College speaks in support of Alvina Pau'uvale's application:
'Alvina has been a student at Tamaki College since 2007 and during
that time we have seen her star ascend and shine. She is a
respectful student who readily takes advantage of the opportunities
presented to her.' In 2009, Alvina achieved NCEA Level 1 with a
Merit endorsement. Alvina was first in Year 11 Mathematics,
Economics, Health, and English and received a Certificate of Merit
for Science.
Alvina holds a number of important Year 12 leadership positions
including Head Librarian of Tamaki College and Tongan Prefect. She
also manages chess tournaments and is the CEO for her SELL
Programme team. Furthermore, Alvina attended the YWCA Future
Leaders Workshop and is a Mathematics and Reading mentor to Year 9
students.
Alvina is also part of the Tamaki College Environmental group, the
debating group and the Tonga Polyfest Group. Alvina has a flare for
science and in 2008, she took part in the Liggins Institute Science
program and is proud of her project based on petrol spillage and
the effect on water quality in her local community. For her
efforts, she was awarded the Earth and Beyond category award and
the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research Gold
Internship Award.
Alvina is an active member of her community church. She has
attended Sunday school for 12 years and has performed in numerous
group and solo performance in the church choir and is the captain
of the Netball team. She also takes part in aerobics.
After finishing NCEA Level 3, Alvina intends to study at the
University of Auckland. Alvina is yet to finalise he preferred path
of tertiary study, but she knows she is really passionate about
Science. Alvina wants to be the first in her family to graduate
from University.
